Easy way to remove a background from a PDF file, preferably for free?

I have a few PDF files that the reader on my tablet hates due to having full-page backgrounds on every page. I'd like to edit the PDFs to get rid of the backgrounds but leave everything else intact. I know Adobe Acrobat does it, but I'm not willing to shell out that much money on such a minor issue. I tried CutePDF earlier, but I didn't find an option like what I wanted here.

Any help or suggestions on what programs I can use for this? Thanks in advance.

You can try PDFill PDF Tools. I was able to successfully delete pages from a PDF file with it. I never needed to delete images, but most free PDF editors I've found couldn't even do this simple task, so maybe it will work.
