I just found out today that there's an "Asus GeForce graphics card". I didn't know that Asus also make graphic card?

I always thought that GeForce is Nividia?

From what I understand there are three major Graphic card makers Nividia, AMD and ATI, right?

You forgot Asus.

Nividia, AMD, ATI, and Asus are the major Graphic card makers.

What you always thought is correct but your understanding is wrong

There are two main graphics card providers (or shall we say chip), Nvidia and ATI. AMD bought out ATI a couple of years back so AMD now own ATI graphics cards. AMD still make CPU chips like Intel do

Basically you either own an Nvidia or ATI graphics card and it's Nvidia who use the name Geforce

Asus are a Brand name and therefore could potentially market graphics cards made by Nvidia or ATI. Asus do infact only tend to make Nvidia based graphics cards.

So you could have a graphics card make by lots of different manufacturers but will only feature an ATI or an Nvidia chip

Do do Nividia or AMD ever make the whole card?

Not generally. They provide a reference design that's the basis for that of their third-party vendors but they don't typically put out a complete card directly themselves.

(nVidia had a short-lived thing with Best Buy awhile back but those were really just Foxconn boards and I really have no idea why they did it, sure-fire way to piss off your usual partners)

Well considering how they f***ed with Microsoft with the original xbox they don't care if they piss of their partners if they see money in some thing.
