Nah. We'll just downgrade the furnaces in our homes and have giant wall mounted heat emitters with the added benefit of playing crysis 1 @ 4k.

idk 1920x1080 on a 23'' display already has enough pixel density for me

That's what you may think, but once you look at something really big with many many many pixels, such as the 15" rMBP, you get all fuzzy inside and wonder why your 1080p text is equally fuzzy..

Just look at the smartphone world. I thought my little Optimus V with a 3.2" 320x480 screen was good. Then I got a 4.3" at 540x960 and my old phone looks like garbage. You will always think your stuff is good until you try something better.

Smart Phone world is completely different from PCs. There are fundamental software differences (especially with fonts) than with PCs. The higher the pixel density the better in this case.

Where on PCs, your native resolution is always going to look just fine because 90-100ppi (or whatever) is pretty standard.

It's a moot point.

In the near future, mobile and desktop operating systems will be one and the same.

Here's why I'd love some more pixels for my computer:

I'm not saying it's critical, but it would be nice, just for the luxury of reading from my computer, instead of transferring everything to my iPad.

A lot of people wont even be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 4k, so it's going to be hard to sell 8k. We'll just see how it goes.

This are the same people who think 1080p is 360 pixels more than 720p, and that monitors are a waste of money because TV's are bigger, and that humans see in frames per seconds (up to 30)

AKA peasants, who gives a **** about them?

Why would 4k ever even become the standard? It becomes harder to run games at a consistent 60 fps at max settings the larger your monitor is. What's the point of having a 4k monitor when your games run at 20 fps even with a high end card?
