Playing Diablo 2 for the first time makes me very dissapointed in 3

Because you have such bad taste in games now?

I was never impressed with D2. It's extremely overated in the sense that there have been better games in the subgenre that have come out since and the fans still believe that there has never been nor ever will be a better game of its kind.

It's still a fun game though.

It just has a lot of questionable decisions, but thats probably because other things improved on aspects of the genre since.

And I really don't like grinding for loot much anymore now that I'm old.

I played Diablo 2 a couple of months back, I was disappointed with it. The graphics were bad, the game seemed to have aged badly.

I put in over 300 hours of Diablo 3 beforehand.

Pretty sure it aged exactly how it should for being almost 14 years old. The hell do you expect out of a game released in 2000? Keep in mind in the year 2000 we were still using CARTRIDGES in consoles (N64).

Nope. Some stuff does age well. Take many sprite based games from the SNES era for example.

They don't look ugly by today's standards. 3D N64 games do though.

I'm sorry you were unable to play a great game when it was relevant. It still holds up pretty well with MedianXL and PlugY mods. You can do some widescreen stuff too, but I've never tried.

Meh, I had plenty of other awesome games to play when D2 came out.

2000 was a ridiculously awesome year for games. PS1, N64 and GBC were getting their sweet swan songs. Dreamcast was hitting its stride, PC was seeing the tail-end of its RPG Renaissance, and GBA exploded onto the scene and PS2 started getting really good games the next year. I really don't see it as a loss. I feel more sorry for people who are still tied to it, as it limits their enjoyment of new games.

Not to dismiss anyone's memories of it, because I'm very confident that it was every bit as awesome as they say it is when it came out :)
