How come you dont have to clean out the inside of a console?

They have the same moving parts as a PC yet PC gamers seem to clean out the inside of their PC every 2-6 months.

no specific reason why you would clean one and not the other

but the main difference is size and airflow. consoles (and also laptops) are designed to be much more compact and have to deal with heat better without relying on large vents.
there is very little access to the inside of a laptop or a console (and opening them often will void your warranty)

having a 120MM intake fan on the front of your pc, maybe another intake fan on the side
vs my 360 only has one small exhaust fan on the back, there is nothing permeable on the front.

I'm sure a lot of consoles overheat exactly because they never clean it out. Consoles aren't made to be easily cleaned out either so you'd probably wind up voiding the warranty to do it.

I was having freezing problems with my PS3 a while back, I blew out the vents with compressed air, problem solved.

Uh, when I used my PS2, I would frequently take it apart / clean it out.

You really should at least blow compressed air through it. Consoles don't magically avoid dust.

You do have to clean out consoles, its just not as easy as popping off a side panel.

I've repaired a lot of consoles and sometimes when I open them... holy crap.

Consoles do need to be cleaned, but they're designed for that need to be ignored by the masses (because the masses are, and always will be, kinda stupid)

"Stupid" is abit much. Maybe they aren't very knowledgeable when it comes to this subject, but not stupid.

If most gamers are like me, they leave their PC on the floor because they take up more space than consoles. More dust settles on the floor than on most surfaces.

But you really should try to minimize dust contamination on consoles with moving parts, especially since they aren't designed to be taken apart to clean. Wipe the surface of the console(wipe away from the vents), and the surface it's on every few days.

Also, Chess is a game of skill much like all gameplay only video games. So it is pretty mindless if you think about it.-mtjormitch
