Borderlands 2 GOTY worth it?

Would I enjoy this if I like the Torchlight games, though? Sounds like a dungeon crawler with emphasis on looting, except more like an open field runner in a first person perspective.

I don't know how generous Torchlight is with loot but BL2 can be excessively stingy. It's a good game, great even, but the drop rates on oranges are a joke. I spent so long farming the final boss (50+ hours) for his shotgun that when it finally dropped it wasn't even satisfying, I was just angry. They should have just left loot like the original, every drop was random, there wasn't any "Kill a boss and reload 200x until a piece of loot only he drops actually happens to drop." You were rewarded for playing, not farming, though if you wanted to farm that was an option as well.

Combine the ludicrous drop rates with a crippled inventory (you could have more bag slots in 1 than bag slots+bank space in 2) and I just can't bring myself to recommend it over 1, so far as looting goes which is a shame because they improved every other area, I feel the loot system was so bad that despite the improvements I still feel like it was an overall downgrade(there's more wrong than just the drop rates but that's another story).

Also I have never played Borderlands 1, so should just go right to 2?

I have a friend who is a huge Borderlands fan but never bothered to ask if she plays 1 or 2 >_>

No, GOTY = DRM free DLC

Just get the DLC off some poor sucker who actually bought it.

ADD, no. Where is the thread for Fallout OCD players?

No harm in skipping honestly. The villain of 2 is Handsome Jack and while he was involved with the events of 1 he's never mentioned or even hinted at. It really didn't have much of a plot until DLC 3 and 4, you're basically just trying to find the vault key the entire game, killing everyone who gets in your way.

Borderlands 1 was a fun game, but flawed because it was a crappy console port that felt like a crappy console port (it used Gamespy for online multiplayer for crying out loud).

At least Borderlands 2 feels like the spent more time making it worthy of being on the PC.

Felt like crappy console port because it used a service exclusively available to the PC platform.... seems legit.

If you really want to try out BL2 and decide on the DLC later, GMG is having a blowout sale on BL2 at $10.

What do you mean by that? If someone owns a legit copy of Borderlands 2, they can have someone with the GOTY edition copypasta the DLC over, and it will work for them?

Just buy the Game of All Time edition that has all of the DLC in it later.
