Damn, I just noticed that the 290X uses 400 watts of power and hits around 94, it's hotter than the fermi

Update - PCOnline has posted the first proper review of the Radeon R9 290X graphic card and you can now take a look at more performance charts below. Again we see that the card trades blows with the GeForce GTX Titan but the most notable difference is that the Radeon R9 290X is a hot card with temperatures swirling across the 94C mark and the power consumption is about 60 Watts higher than the Titan. So proper cooling and power supplies would be recommended for use with AMD’s next generation flagship card

Silly Xeeh, still can't read graphs. 400W is the system power consumption, which is only 60W more than the Titan (less than the difference between Fermi and Cayman; funny how nobody cared about power back then). Also, the card hit 94C because the fan duty was set to 43%. Fermi easily generated more heat.

Where does it say system? I don't read Chinese, do you?

So it's using 60 watts more power anyway, and it's hitting 94.. This thing is being electrocuted already. Expect piss poor OCs.. It's obvious that AMD is stressing these things out to the utter max

480 produced same temps. Fermi is now R 290X

Enjoy your ovens!

Do you really think any GPU consumes over 300w to it's self?
400w is total system consumption for sure, and 60w is a huge difference when you consider the GPUs are probably barely over 200w on their own.
However, the test used, Furmark, isn't a very good comparison anymore since cards use TDP boost to improve performance.

He used a bit of common sense.

The Titan doesn't use ~350W, not even close

So it seems the 290X is one of the hottest cards in existence, even the fermi only got 92.

Yup. As hot as 4870x2.

What is to defend? It runs much hotter, uses a lot more power and performs less than Nvidia's 2 year old GK110.

titan is $1000
290x is $650

2x titans $2000
2x 290x $1300

GTX Titan has airbag and car brake
290x has no airbag and no car brake = means runs hot, stuttering, shut down
