Need some opinions on this crossfire setup

I currently have a Phenom ii x4 965 and a 7790. My motherboard needs to be replaced anyway so I was thinking of getting a crossfire compatible one and another 7790. In total I will be spending about $200. Motherboard will be about $80 and the GPU about $120. Does this seem an efficient option and did and AMD fix the micro stuttering problem with crossfire? Keep in mind my motherboard has to be replaced regardless.

Time to switch to Intel for CPU/Motherboard. Get an i5-4670k and a z87 board.

Also, yes, the recent AMD drivers have mostly fixed the issues they were having with Crossfire.

Get at least a FX compatible mobo, and the beta driver seem to have help with it according to most people, but I will know when I let my friend crossfire my space 7870 with his.

I do plan on getting a new CPU sometime in the near future.

Then get a FX compatible mobo. AMD is NOT as bad as everyone in gamefaqs makes it seem. But that 965 will be holding your crossfire set up back slightly. You will probably hit a cpu limit before a card limit.

Agreed, the 965 is going to bottleneck your dual GPU setup. I would still suggest Intel, although the FX-8350 is not a bad CPU by any means.

Honestly, I wouldn't Crossfire that setup, sell your current card and get the best single card you can. Games will soon be pumping larger textures out so VRAM usage might skyrocket. With a dual GPU setup the VRAM is not doubled, so you may run into problems add to that crossfire is a massive power hog.

As for motherboard, you don't need to upgrade quite yet, but if you do get the best mobo/CPU combo you can get at the time.

Could I crossfire a 2gb model with my 1gb model?

AMD processors really are that bad. I'm sorry to say
