Is the original Deus Ex really that good? I'm not sure how I can play the game

The point is, just because you have to aim does not mean the game is not an RPG. IIRC none of the stats in Fallout 3 mess with your accuracy outside VATS.

you can't play the game CS-style with a bow no matter what your stats look like

I don't know what you mean, but in Skyrim you can

No controller input makes it hard to play. I really hate keyboard gaming especially when you need octopus fingers to get full functionality.

Oh, you thought they made this game for you? You clearly bought the wrong game.

Also, there are a few graphics mods you can try for Deus Ex. I'd recommend playing it without them first, though. If you really think they would help, then go ahead and install them.

Why would you recommend not playing with any graphics mods? I'm just curious if it changes the gameplay somehow, or breaks the game, or something else crazy. Otherwise, why would you not recommend the mods?

I see that happen on these boards a lot. People who are savvy with an older game will mention a mod, then dismiss it by saying you shouldn't use it, but not really give any reasons why.

If you play with the graphics mods first then you won't appreciate the improvements. Trying the game without them first is better because then it's obvious that it's been improved when you go to install the mods.

And if you have trouble getting into the game with vanilla graphics, then installing mods could help. If you play with modded graphics first and still can't get into the game, there's nothing that can really be done.

There has never been a graphical enhancement that was true to the feeling of the game without them, so thats the reason I'd give. But not a lot of people are still out there that can appreciate what sort of feeling and atmosphere pixelated goodness can created. That said, Deus Ex doesn't really have that -> and it was outdated even when it came out. At worst, some characters would "feel" a bit different.

Just don't install the mod that changes Gunther [can't remember the name]. He looks absolutely horrific with the mod.

False, if you have poor points in small arms, a sniper rifle scope will shake around. 100 points and it doesn't move. Fairly sure the same thing happens with other weapons, but its most noticeable with the sniper.
