If I can get Windows Pro with student discount, I'll upgrade (Have some Qs)

I don't really have anything I need on my C drive, since I mainly just use it for boot, so I understand that I will lose everything, however, is there any way for me to transfer the things on there? I'd rather not have to uninstall the things that are on there, but I will if I have to.

What is the best way to go about doing the uninstall of W7 and getting Windows 8 on it? I've never uninstalled an OS before, so it may be a dumb question.

Anything I should do before I install Windows 8?

Edit: Topic title should say Windows 8.

I would just do a clean install, since ultimately, you wouldn't mind reinstalling your programs. Also, no need to uninstall Windows 7. During the Windows 8 install process, select Clean Install. After, when you're prompted to select where to install, you can format your HDD and create partitions, if necessary.

Yup. In fact, it will actually be easier for activation purposes if you begin the Windows installation with Windows 7 still installed, considering you'll probably get the Windows 8 Pro upgrade version if you're using some sort of student program to get the discount.

Okay, sorry. Last question - If I buy Windows 8 today can I upgrade directly to 8.1 for free? Or will I have to pay more?

You'll need an 8.1 license to upgrade directly to 8.1. Otherwise, go to 8 and update from there to 8.1.

And if I go to 8 from 8.1, that is free, right? I basically just want to buy 8 today so I can get used to it on my day off, and then upgrade to 8.1 tomorrow, but not if it will cost extra.

Follow this instruction using the burned DVD or USB install option. I recently bought the Windows 8 pro student upgrade and installed it to a fresh partition. Now I dual boot Windows 8 and Vista. It's very simple and easy

Awesome, guys! Thanks a lot. I just purchased it. :)

Quick question, though. I know you guys are probably sick of me now, but that's okay. lol

It asked if I wanted to DL Windows 8 or 8.1. I said 8.1 and it told me that my product key was invalid. How do I get a valid product key for it?
