PSA: Windows 8.1 is bricking computers, including HP and Asus computers.

I just unsuccessfully tried to install Windows 8.1, it updated fine and then it came to a blank, black screen. I waited like this for 4 hours, and nothing, and my battery run out. I didnt even notice the charger got unplugged somewhere along the line. Anyway, when I charged it and restarted it, it came to a black screen, now with a cursor on it, and it came to a system restore screen, where I allowed it to roll back to the last known working point, which should have been before I updated. That came to a screen with only the Windows logo and a black screen other than that. That hung, so I restarted and tried to do it once more, and it brought me to a BSOD, and restarted me again, starting a loop of restarts, citing a BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG error. So I went to the boot settings from the boot up menu, and tried a system restore from there. Then, it told me there was no operating system installed and cancelled it, taking me back to the windows logo hang screen. Im stumped, nothing on the internet is helping, but Ive had this laptop for 3 years and it fits all the requirements for 8.1. Just wanna spread the sad news. Microsoft are a bunch of turkeys, every launch they have something like this and every launch they break something.

Im on a HP Pavillion dv6 with 8 gb of RAM btw

Update: I just tried another roll back and it worked. Its back to regular 8, and Im not updating again anytime soon, but it could have broken mine. Ive also read the same error, but unfixable on Asus.

So you're evidence that it's "bricking computers", is you doing something wrong?

Better call Fox news, sounds like we got a serious epidemic on our hands with this critical trend of one person

HP is garbage. Also, this is not bricking and this is why you always to a clean install, not an upgrade.

No, my evidence is from more than just me: http://www.itwire.com/your-it-news/home-it/61951-windows-81-update-fail
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Windows-8-1-Installation-Fails-with-Blank-Black-Screen-392346.shtml

And how the f*** is this me doing it wrong? The update froze and wouldn't do anything. It was stuck on a black screen for over 4 hours, like I said. How exactly is that me doing it wrong? It shouldn't take more than an hour according to everything I've seen.

Dude, I installed it. That's not me doing it wrong, that's the update having problems. Like I said, I left it for an hour, came back, it was finishing up and then went to a black screen, so I left it for another 4 hours watching a movie and it was still stuck.

I've been installing 8.1 on laptops here at work since the RTM and not one of them has been "bricked" because of it. These are mostly HP laptop's and desktops, with a few Lenovo's thrown in there as well.

I actually just updated one of our previous W8 laptops to W8.1 a few minutes ago. No problems at all.

Yeah but it's still bricking some laptops. I got lucky with mine, I've seen some stories about some computers being so messed up they won't even get to the BIOS menu.

Microsoft have now acknowledged there are problems with the update. Big ones. And they've been there since the preview in June. My fault though, isn't it? How could I be so stupid as to update?
