GFWL games bought physical retail

#1HaxnStashPosted 10/18/2013 7:53:07 AM
Is there any news on what happens to games bought retail for GFWL? I was under the impression that some of them can be activated through Steam now? Or was that just Batman : AC or games bought digitally only?

What happens now to some of my games that I bought physically with GFWL?

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The Batman games will both receive patches that let you activate them on Steam. Capcom's said they'll do the same for their games.

Depends on the developer. Plus; they need to be SSA keys to remotely make sense and not every GFWL key is SSA.

How exactly? Or it hasn't happened yet? I tried to activate my physical copy of Batman : AA on steam and other GFWL games and had no luck.

The ones that I have and really want to save are:

Bioshock
Bioshock 2
Deadrising 2
Batman AA

Unfortunately for Batman :AA; the key for that isn't SSA. You could've taken the Halo 2 GFWL key and activated AA with it.

It sounds like it should work for Batman:AA too,

Bioshock 1 isn't GFWL.

For Bioshock 2, if you bought it somewhere other than Steam, refer to this.

Oh, so only if it says "Games for Windows Live" and not just Games for WIndows then. I tried Bioshock 2 and it worked flawlessly.

I'm worried about Batman AA. According to the website posted, it should work. I checked the code lots of times and it's the correct one so no mistake on my part.

Hopefully, they do it on other gfwl games too.

Edit: I was just looking at steam and it looks like I wasn't the only one with the problem. So that's really good to know.

Games for Windows was just a marketing name

Games for Windows LIVE used a PC version of xbox live and a gamertag to register and play games.

Right. "Games for Windows" is entirely separate from "Games for Windows Live". The former's just a set of guidelines for making games on Vista and up (which you can read here if you're curious, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ee417691%28v=vs.85%29.aspx), the later is Microsoft's proverbial red-headed step-son of an online gaming service.
