damn the 550ti surely must have been a bad card if we've already reached the point where it's considered minimum...

550Ti was a terrible card. Not much better than 8800GTX.
Just goes to show how poorly AMD cards age, though, when you need a 5870 just to compete with a 550Ti.

I think they just put generic cards on the box....why a 550 and not a 450, for instance?

Also, 550 ti was closer to a 5770 than a 8800 from what I recall. It's about as close to an 8800 as my 580 is close to my 5850 (around 60% stronger).

Also, the minimums for Ghosts are ridiculously inflated in general IMO. I wouldn't mind those requirements if we actually saw some mindblowing graphics behind them, but Ghosts isn't exactly the most impressive game coming out this holiday season.

8800GS is not 8800GT is not 8800GTS is not 8800GTS 512 is not 8800GTX.

8800GTX used the same configuration as 8800Ultra with a lower clockspeed, which was reused for 9800GTX, and then again for 9800GTX+(another overclock like the Ultra) which was then reused for GTS250, and then refreshed to Fermi for GTS450, which was then overclocked and refreshed again to GTX 550Ti.
Sans minor DX11 performance improvements between 450 and 550, they're pretty much the same card.
Sans DX11 compatibility, 250 and 450 are pretty much the same card.
GTS250 is 9800GTX+, which is an overclocked 9800GTX, which is the same as 8800Ultra, which is an overclocked 8800GTX.

5770 is around the same performance as 4850, which is around the same performance as a 9800GTX, which is the same as a 8800Ultra, and pretty much just an overclocked 8800GTX.
Therefore, it makes sense for GTS450 to compete with 5770, and GTX550Ti to compete with 6770. They're all competing with 8800GTX still.
