Need best bang for buck for a friend's build and not sure if FX-6300 or a hyperthreaded i3 is a better choice. --- "Blacker than a moonless night. Hotter and more bitter than Hell itself...That is coffee." - Godot 3DS FC: 5172 0388 6449
Depends somewhat on the games your friend plays, but I'd give the edge to the FX-6300. Dual cores are obsolete now. --- Intel Core i7 3820 | EVGA X79 SLI K2 | MSI 7950 Twin Frozr III | Samsung / 840 120GB / 8GB RAM | 1TB WD Caviar Blue | Corsair / 550D / H70 | Silencer MKIII 600W
The 6300 is better for newer games, the i3 holds an advantage for games in 2007-2011 period, and others that don't use multithreading, like most MMOs. --- Once we perfect building Mechs, I expect there to be a factory in Mexico pumping out a brand call Mechsican. I wanna buy me a Mechsican. steamid: Rohchya
I'd go FX. The reason the i3 is competitive at all is because a lot of games dont use many threads. i3 dual cores can compete with AMD quads.
However, next gen games will use up to 8 cores, so a 6 core fx will destroy the i3. --- Desktop: Phenom II X4 965 | 8 GB DDR3 | GTX 580 | 1 TB HDD | W7 | 650W Antec | 1600x900 Laptop: A6 3400m | 4 GB DDR3 | HD 6520g | 500 GB HDD | W7 | 1366x768
I found a great combo deal for an FX6300 & motherboard so I went with that. --- "Blacker than a moonless night. Hotter and more bitter than Hell itself...That is coffee." - Godot 3DS FC: 5172 0388 6449
