I made a thread here not too long ago. Long story short, I'm down to about 64gb on my 1TB hard drive, so I could clearly use more space. This looks like a good investment , but I feel like I've heard Seagate is trash, no exceptions. Has that changed? 2TB for 70 bucks seems great really.

They aren't "trash" but I think WD makes much better drives.

For over 25 years I have used and installed more than 200 HDDs from Seagate, and only had 2 that give me problems before they were 5 years old.

In that same time span, I bought only 1 WD disc, and it broke on me. XD

Always preferred buying a solid enclosure and putting a drive in it to buying one with an enclosure already on it. That said there's nothing particularly wrong with Seagate that doesn't apply to pretty much every manufacturer at some point or other. They had a bad run a generation or two back, but AFAIK the current generation is solid

My experience with seagate is from the past, still have that salt taste in my mouth. Perhaps they've improved and they are priced better.

At the moment I'd take a current gen Barracuda over a similarly priced WD Green all day every day. I don't trust any drive that can't be bothered to list it's spindle speed accurately as far as I can throw it. The WD Blacks are a different story, but you pay a pretty hefty premium for them.
