Thats what I said. But they are convinced its all because of "next gen graphics" and because programming on consoles is "different". When I point out the small file size of Crysis, they say that Crysis only looks good because of high end PCs and not because of whats in the file...

Lol, files are files, no matter the platform, and programming a computer will differ depending on the architecture etc, but at its most basic programming the consoles is not a whole hell of a lot different than programming a PC engine/game. I imagine they merely didn't bother to compress the textures so perhaps there would be less CPU overhead de-compressing them before loading, or they merely didn't see the need due to the natural disc capacity.

Your first mistake is arguing with fanboys....they are the absolute WORST people I've seen in my 12 years of coming to gamefaqs.

Fixed that for you.

There are so many games coming out with these huge installs - I don't think I have any games on my system that are that size (even with texture mods installed).

I think, as you've said, it's junk data or even files purposely left uncompressed in order to fill out the disc and make it look better. It's "next gen" after all, they need to make it look like they are making the effort. Call of Duty is a good one, 50GB for CoD? They just want to say "well, look at the size, this is all down to the amazing textures we have, this is truly a new generation of gaming".

If Killzone SF had 1080P native with better textures and graphics than Crysis 3 yet the PS4 graphics card or whatever little shell they put in there is equivalent to a 260X or 7770 the 1GB of vram thats in the system. Yet umm even without the texture pack Crysis 3 can use 2GB of Vram? If you explain this to them they still wont listen? wow thats sad. I can anme numerous PC games some not even shooters that can utilize 2GB of Vram when again the ps4 and Xbox-one have 1GB of Vram, 1GB graphics cards have been out since,..2007,..

Wasn't MGS4 like 50GBs? I remember this was a selling point and people were super hyped for the file size.

Not sure, but I do know the initial install to my PS3 took a decent while to complete.

A lot of PC games are compressed to fit on a dvd. Sony has 50gb so they may as well use it, so fewer assets such as high texture files do not need to be installed. Although I do believe "junk data" is put on many games on consoles to cut down piracy...
