I believe that was the point & tis a good thing. You do NOT want a Half Life 3 released and created in today's generation of gaming.

Can you say health regen!!! Or how about a cover system!!

That's not a very good FPS.

One game I wholeheartedly suggest everyone should try is Quake 4. I know many gamers skipped it because it looked too much like Doom 3 and Doom 3 wasn't a very fun game at all, but Quake 4 is different. The balance is more geared towards classic ID style action, lots of moving sideways and gore.

Crysis is also an amazing shooter that also deserves a try. It looks and plays great, plus you get to have your revenge against the Korean people for kicking your ass in Dota 2.

Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike: GO, Half Life 2 and all other stuff published by Valve rocks hard. They are simply the best.

Borderlands is probably the best new IP of the last generation and is very addictive, fun game with good core mechanics and a decent amount of variety. If you never played it, it's best to start with Borderlands 2, 'cos it's better in every way.

Honestly, I do not think this is as much a case of being a good or bad FPS, but rather which of several subgenres it falls into. Not all FPS are fastpaced arena shooters, and neither should they all be that. Though I will check out that TB video.

EDIT: Just watched the video.
1. I agree that there are some things that are lost when arena shooters vanished and got replaced by almost exclusively military shooters with quite different mechanics. However, the things that are lost are not the things he talks about in the video imo.
2. God, he is awful at playing that game.

I like his channel and his videos, but this one was pretty weak.

I really hate grinding exp with multiplayer to unlock advantage. Its really sad that online FPS had to rip off mmorpg leveling system. Also dont bother with building up skills with leveling arguement. Person can still be horrible at the start and to end because of new perks and guns or doesnt he bother to learn what earn.
