Starting up games on Steam for the first time.

EVERYTIME I start a game up in Steam for the first time, it installs DirectX, is there ANY way I can make it all understand that I already have that installed??

find the game directory in your steam directory and look for a directory called redist

delete or rename.

Can't remember exactly but I think sometimes that can be solved by deleting 'install.vbf' or something like that in the steam games folder. For some reason some games don't automatically remove it after the initial setup. It might be a different extension (not vbf) as I'm not 100% sure of that part.

edit: its a vdf file and is often called installscript.vdf

Yeah after rereading the first post I realize this is TC's complaint. I thought it was one of those situations where you run the SAME game after installing it and it tries to install each time.

TC, directx is not a singular program and there are many many different versions. The install needs to check that you have the exact version installed.

Really? Do you seriously not remember when you had to input cd-keys, wait 20 minutes to install off the disc and end up installing or at least checking to see if you have all this nonsense anyways? Give me a break. Waiting 5 minutes for the first launch and only the first launch on that machine is hardly worth all this !#$!@ing.
