I prefer adventure/RPG type games. My computer is not the greatest but I think it will run most games at decent settings:

Fallout:New Vegas, the more modded the better. Darksiders 1 & 2 are also fun.
Tomb Raider was decent. --- Not changing this sig until Christ returns -- Started 30 A.D 3770K @ 4.2Ghz | 16GB Corsair Vengeance | GTX 670 SLi

Not really a RPG...but it kinda is? Crusader Kings 2. It's a real time strategy game...but it's also kinda like the The Sims, in that you don't play as a kingdom/country. You play as the guy running it, and when he dies (so long as the heir is in the same dynasty) you play as another dude/girl.
It's got character traits, stats, all of the typical RPG things that people like. It's a really good game.
Also now that I'm thinking about it, Mount and Blade: Warband. It's very much a RPG. And if you mod it a little (which is very easy to do) it's even better, more RPG stuff, more open world things to do. It's just a great game. --- Big Money. Big Women. Big Fun. Skillz Ferguson

Check out the Ys games specifically Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys: Origin if you want a great Action RPG with some superb music as well. --- Trails in the Sky has some of the best writing and most fleshed out world I've seen in a RPG. Now coming to Steam Winter 2013. Sequel confirmed Summer 2014

Speak of the devil...
Mount and Blade Warband just went on sale for $5 on Steam today.
Get it IMO. --- Big Money. Big Women. Big Fun. Skillz Ferguson
Neverwinter Nights 2 Icewind Dale 2 Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. Heroes of Might and Magic 3
That should get you started, plenty of RPG in all games and strategy in the last three.
