question about overclocking?

#1sonicteam2k1Posted 10/26/2013 4:55:00 PM
I installed a new cooler and used a guide to overclock my i5 3570K but I've never OC'd an intel CPU and i've also never OC'd on an ASUS board. I've only OC'd AMD CPU's.

my questio is, after following the guide step by step, how do I know if my CPU is overclocked? In windows it still shows my CPU cloed at 3.4 GHZ. Does this just display the defaul speed?

Also in the bios of my P8Z77-V LK it shows that on the main menu, but when I go into the advanced setup, it shows that the speed is 4700 MHz or something like that (I set the cores at 47)

also when using CPU-Z it still shows the clock speed in the main menu at 3.4 GHz, is that just showing the stock speed as well?

So I decided to run Real Temp, under max load my the speed always peaks at 4220 MHz. Does this means my CPU will only overclock to 4.2 GHz?

Just want to make sure everything is ok. my max temps reach an average of about 65C on each core when at this speed.

Could someone who has experience with this stuff give me a few answers?

My overclock doesn't show in Windows or CPU-Z (until its under load) so I wouldn't worry, I'm not sure why you're maxing at 4.2 under load if you've got 4.7 set in the bios, You said 47 cores I'm assuming the BCLK/PEg multiplier was 100?

You could always run 3D Mark that checks your processor and displays maximum clock speed at the end of the run.

That tutorials fine, I've seen it before. Not trying to be an ass but if you followed a tutorial that told you to change multiplier to 44 why did you change it to 47?

since i was getting 4.2 at load, I moved it up gradually to see what it would do. It did nothing so I took it back down to 44

I give up, so now the cores are set to 44? not the 47 you said originally.
But you're reporting a maximum clock speed of 4.2ish?
I'd guess that somehow the BCLK is set to 95/96?

yeah I originally started at 44 then moved it up to 47 to see if there was any difference. When I noticed there wasn't I clocked it down to 44. Just trying trial and error at this point. I just didn't post everything I did in the first post because I was rushing..

but the fact still stands my load never goes over 4223.82 MHz no matter what I OC it to.

I apologize for not making everything clear.

Can you download core temp and screenshot it for me quick? I have a hunch but its 2am here so I wont be up for too much longer :)

no problem

my load percentage is only hitting a max of 48%. It keeps jumping back and forth from like 27% and so on.
