the gpu first is the much better investment but since you want it mainly for stuff like GW2 then yeah...
PC hardware doesn't need to match console hardware in price when PC gamers save literal thousands from the software they buy. http://www.steamgamesales.com/

I just mean that I'll spend $400-700 on the gpu whether I buy it first or second

Then get an HD 280x or 290x and then upgrade your CPU ASAP.

For 700 dollars you could replace CPU, GPU and MOBO easily. Just get an i5 with a 280x.

Yeah WTF.

If you have $700 to blow, then you can get everything you need now and be set for awhile.

are i7's going to be of any use to GW2?

otherwise I'm guessing the i5-4670K is the best option, unless a new series is about to come out?

Not unless they do some massive overhauls to the game's engine. Getting a 4670k with a decent GPU is your best bet.

Okay so my GPU will be one of these 3:

GTX 780 Ti = MSRP of $700
R9 290X = MSRP of $550
GTX 780 = MSRP of $500

Will that mantle thing be working with nvidia cards? I'm assuming it would work with the 290x

My CPU will be i5-4670K

My mobo will be ???
how does one choose a single mobo among all of them?
