Window's Vista Service Pack 1 has been installed 5 times. What?

Ok so I've been trying to install this service pack for like over a month and it keeps telling me to install it. I'm looking at my update history and it says it's been installed 5 times.

I don't know what in the world is going on since it says it would take hours and restart my PC a few times but the download doesn't take more than a couple minutes and the same exact service pack update comes back on the Windows Update window for me to install again.

I just bought Metro 2033 since it was 75% off on steam and it said I needed to install Direct3D11 but that I needed the service pack. And then when it was done installing all the steps it said that I didn't have some Physics or Physilis or something like that and now I have to re-install it.

Anyone know whats going on? If it happens again I'll write exactly what everything said but that's the gist of it. Thanks for any feedback.

Try using the standalone installers instead.

Personally, I'd recommend just updating to SP2 as well: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17669

Have you tried downloading the standalone service pack? Windows Update can sometimes be unreliable.

You can update straight to service pack 2.

Oh thanks guys I appreciate it! I used the link you gave me Dorami and I'm downloading it now and dam it's 577MB so this has to be the one lol. One more question though, do I need to install the first service pack along with the second or am I ok with going straight to the second one?

I think you need SP1 before you can update to SP2.
