set the HDMI as your audio output. right click on the speaker symbol at the bottom right corner, it may be hiding in your system tray. click playback devices and set the hdmi to default.

Awesome! Thanks so much!

And is there a way I can make my TV and my normal speakers both the default at the same time?

You can only have one device outputting sound. It will automatically default to your computer's speakers when you unplug the HDMI cable though.

I switch back and forth all the time because I watch things from my computer on my TV with optical (S/PDIF) but sometimes want to use the PC speakers while sitting at my PC. I have noticed that sometimes if I have it set to PC speakers as default and start playing music, then switch to S/PDIF and use another program to watch a video it will keep playing the music sound from the PC speakers and the video sound from the TV, but it doesn't always work.

I wouldn't call myself a gamer, but rather an explorer, artist and musician. I enjoy exploring worlds and stories created by such people, often found in games.
