Windows Media Player is not sorting my music how I want

#1HarmonicWavePosted 10/27/2013 11:38:16 PM
It used to be when I clicked on an artist it would show their albums in alphabetical order, so I added numbers to the beginning of the album titles to put them in order. The first album would then be at the top and the newest at the bottom, so I could start at the top and listen to everything in order.

Now it always sorts according to release year with the newest at the top. I can click on Organize and sort by Album which puts it back how I want it, but when I come back the next time it has defaulted back to newest at the top.

Is there any way to set the default sort method so it stays the way I leave it? I can't find any way to lock the sort method.

I know it's not a big deal, it's just an annoyance I'd like to solve. If you think using WMP in general is stupid then please recommend a better music player (fyi: I can't stand iTunes).

Thanks

I'd say just use Winamp instead and be done with it.

Why would you ever use "Windows Media Player" when there are tons of better free players out there?

Using foobar 2000 makes this very simple.

For example to order albums by album artist, then release year, then title, then disc number, you would use:
%album artist% | %date% | %title% | %discnumber%
For your grouping scheme.

EDIT: Also, this is the skin I use.

All the little tabs at the bottom allow you to switch between different panels, like artist biography, lyrics, and there are three different playlist views.

The buttons in the upper right allow you to choose a layout, basically whether you want the left and righ tpanels to show, left center, right center, or all three.

Because sometimes I like using the default when it serves my purpose, and I just never got around to researching or trying other options. Which is why I'm asking here. I will try the suggestions for other players and see what I like. Thanks.

For me, it's less complicated and more the fact that I simply cannot find a decent skin for Foobar. Songbird is unsupported now though, as the developer shut down back in June, I believe. It's still fully functional and I've encountered no major bugs, aside from a random crash every now and then.

Well didn't know about the dropped support. I didn't really bother with a foobar skin. I think the great thing with foobar is that you can easily do most with keyboard shortcuts. So the look is not that important and I arranged the stuff myself the way I wanted it. Since I don't know how to actually skin and I also would have to use colums instead of the normal UI.
