Your best graphical moment

#1son_gogettoPosted 10/28/2013 12:15:09 PM
So what particular moment in a game has wowed you with it's graphics? By this I mean any cutscene, scripted event, entering a new location, etc.

Mine would definitely be entering either Polis or Venice for the first time in Metro: Last Light. Absolutely beautiful, and the sheer amount of detail in the atmosphere and environments truly wowed me and immersed me like no game ever has.

Worthy mentions would be stepping outside in the 'Welcome to the Jungle' level of Crysis 3, and the story cutscenes of AC3, the facial details and textures are great.

I expect Battlefield 4's single player to top this next week though.

In-game stuff - Gman's face in Half Life 2.

Cutscenes - Warcraft 3.

The cutscenes of Soul Reaver 2. They were very fluid and had great facial animations.

Morrowind's landscapes. It still has one of the best artistic directions I've seen in a video game.

Unreal Tournament 2004. The entire game, really.

Splinter Cell's shading. It was really advanced for the time and the way it interacted with gameplay was really neat.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time had really pretty vistas and wonderful animations.

Just Cause 2 and its huge, open world.

Half-Life 2's animations and physics.

First time I was ever really wowed was in Legend Of Dragoon and the first dragoon transformations. Especially the divine dragon.

Agree with JC2, beautiful vistas.

I did actually mean by best to date, hence why I went with recent games, but nostalgia works too I guess. In that case I'll go with FF7's Bike cutscene in the shinra building, the original
Zelda tech demo for the Gamecube, and Super Mario 64 loading it up for the first time.

OH! Actually, REmake on the GameCube, easily the best graphics for its time in my
Opinion. Even though its pre rendered, it still looked glorious.

My bad. But there is a list of games that amazed me throughout time. Just extract recent titles out of the list I guess.

Damn more I forgot about, completely forgot about Bioshock infinite when you enter Columbia for the first time! And the BF3 jet level was great too.

First/biggest game engine "wow" - C&C Generals early footage, with the dam break (which was actually included in-game too)

Pre-rendered - WarCraft 3

I don't really get wowed anymore. A few moments from my past:

Title screen from Defender of the Crown on Amiga.
I remember seeing the smoothness and colors of Sonic the Hedgehog.
The CGI intro to Panzer Dragoon impressed me a lot.
3D acceleration in Quake 2 (anything before it didn't impress me).
Those parts in Crysis 1 with the huge alien attacking.
End of Dead Space with the boss fight.

I think I'm beyond getting wowed for a long time. The next step for me is probably realism. When I see a video game that I seriously can't tell if it's real or not (animations, expressions, etc), then I'll be wowed.
