What would be best to upgrade at this point? My pc is about 31/2 years old. I have no idea what my cooling unit is, it came with the desktop, Alienware Aurora btw. --- ...and I'm goin right out the door.

I'd say it could wait another year. Maybe replace your 6870 with a 280x, if you want the biggest boost at a low price. That i7 should be about as good as an i5, I think. Could probably overclock it, methinks. --- Once we perfect building Mechs, I expect there to be a factory in Mexico pumping out a brand call Mechsican. I wanna buy me a Mechsican. steamid: Rohchya

I'd say it will do low-medium settings for the next year. Maybe even beyond. --- Don't lie to someone who trusts you. Don't trust someone who lies to you.

Only problem I can see is the GPU. I think the rest of the components are still fine.

Definitely this. It's not in the studios' interest to require more than those cards anytime soon, that would be suicide for the game sales.
If more games start using more than four cores/threads now that the next-gen consoles are coming, that i7 960 might live on for yet some years. The first gen i7 have really had a great run --- Super Mario Kart is the single best Mario Kart ever!
