Thinking of getting a Belkin or Netgear dual band usb adapter

#1LittleYamiPosted 10/30/2013 12:45:41 PM
I went to my grandparents house the other day and noticed that my grandpa's laptop has a Belkin N150 usb adapter attached. When I did a speed test, his connection was 25.67/6.40 mbps. They have Verizon FIOS with only 15/5 mbps. Did that usb adapter actually help increase the mbps? I thought of buying one myself, a Belkin N750 dual band usb adapter or at least N600 one, since I have crappy Verizon high-speed DSL, hoping it would boost my 1.5mbps. Does it work if I connect it to the back of my verizon dsl modem if it has a usb port?

A usb adapter won't increase the speed your ISP has set. A while back when I had FIOS my speed was higher than what I was paying for. The USB port on the rear of your modem/router is probably for a printer, network sharing, or a service port for techs.

Get it man its totally worth every penny. My speed was three meg and it doubled my laptop to six meg AND removed my data cap. Take that comcast.

Damn. My DSL supposedly can go up to 15mbps. Would an N150 work since it boosted my grandpa's mbps by 10, which would make my 1.5 to 11.5? Damn, now I really want FIOS. Before I actually buy one, I should borrow my grandpa's first.

Run the same test again with an actual network cable between the computer and the Internet connection, with wireless disabled.

If you're lucky, the adapter will boost your speed to 15.0.
