Are there any good survival games on PC?

Like a game where you're dropped off in a world and you try to survive. Preferably non-linear, sandbox.

Apparently there's some game called Don't Starve that's supposed to be like this, but I'd preferably a game without that art direction (it's really boring and the novelty value wares off really fast).

Check out the following and see if any of em fit your tastes:

Slender: The Eight Pages
Slender: The Arrival
Amnesia: The Dark Descent $5 on Steam right now
Amnesia: Machine for Pigs
Penumbra: Black Plague edition $2.50 on Steam right now

Hey there! Thanks for the recommendations! However, I must say I am highly insulted that you'd recommend me, not just one, but TWO Slender games!

Who are you to accuse me of being the kind of person that would not only play, but also ENJOY multiple Slender games.

Lord help us all if enjoying a Slender game becomes the norm. God damn us all if we don't stop that from happening. The f***ing end of humanity as we know it. Billions of years, wasted!

So thanks, but no thanks, friend! :) You can enjoy them though :D

There's that new game How to Survive that came out last week. You have to hunt and gather etc. But it's also a zombie game...

There aren't that many great ones because content is an issue with them.

Just play Don't Starve. Yes the art direction isn't for everyone but the constant content patches that get released is worth it.

Dont Starve is a great game and in no way is the art style simply a novelty

Its not like proteus where the only reason people look at it is because of the art style. Dont starve has so much content andstuff going for it. You will be slaughtered alive and cluesless mulitple times and wonder how ou can survive one more day. It becomes alot easier if you use the wikis but it can be fun to experience the unknown never knowing how you will survive one more day.
