Is the i5 3570 worthy to purchase nowadays?

Honestly the main appeal for me was that I could find one online second-hand for a little more than half the retailprice.

Same thing goes for the motherboard. Since it is essentially a dead socket, sellers realize that if they do not sell them now they may not sell them at all.

I have a nice intel MOBO with USB 3.0, Sata III, and all the bells and whistles I want (and some I do not even use, like bluetooth, wifi etc.). It was just 35 euros..... (Z68)

Honestly I'd go with a 4670k or 4770k. Unless you really need to save $10, I don't see the point in going with a 3570. You need a new motherboard anyways so you might as well get what is up-to-date.

do you think I will need another motherboard??? damn this is getting out of control

Yours is a 1156, the i5-4670 needs a 1150? I think...

But yeah, you'll need a new motherboard.

What could be the best processor I can get with the Gigabyte P55-US3L motherboard?

Uh, just a quick check brings up an i7-8xx series.

What do you have right now so we can compare it to the i7-8xx?

Unless it's on sale for stupidly cheap just get the most up to date chip. It's worth it if you are running an older 1155 board with an I3 or something and want to upgrade but if you have to change motherboards anyway just go with haswell, not much more money.

Looking for a good processor for gaming

thanks

Since we are on the subject... sadly I just bought a 3570k last June.. it's been great for gaming even at stock (have yet to OC it). Beforehand I used a 4100 for a quad core so you can only imagine my joy. That said, is it really already time for me to upgrade? (Considering all the new gen. hype).

The main reason to go Haswell over ivy is for the motherboard features. Performance wise the two can be brought pretty close

Yeah, you'll want a new motherboard because the best CPU you could upgrade to isn't that much of an improvement over what you have now.
