Just keep it at 1080p. Switching resolutions is annoying. If text is too small, change it.

IMO you should run your desktop at 1920x1080 and just increase the scaling of stuff. Come to think of it, Windows 8.1 has improved scaling options.

There should not be any black bars. Are you using an LCD TV as a monitor? If yes, you should check the TV settings and see that Picture Size is set to either 16:9 or adjust to screen.

OH MAN, i switched everything to 1920X1080 & upscaled text. Everything looks way crisper & clearer. Glad i listened to you guys. My STEAM page is a lil smaller but no biggie. Now i am finally using my monitor to it's full potential. Beers on me ;)

I see you are a fellow xbox user. PC gaming is awesome but it brings a new dimension of troubleshooting.

Thankfully, it's rarely ever a complicated issue so just get used to googling things and you will be ok.
