Laptop VS Tablet VS Hybrid (eg: Surface)

Hi All:

Since my trip 2 years ago, I have come to realize that a 15.6 inch laptop is not your best buddy for in flight entertainment in the economic class seat. (It does not help that I am a tall person too).

Turning the clock 2 years later, I am now sitting here with the same question with a 14/16 hours flight waiting ahead for me 2 weeks from now (kinda happen all a sudden, so that's why there is this rush).

As a gamer, I have always stuck to a desktop; which is why I built a new one last year and my laptop remains an entertainment hub + occasional work laptop (5 years old now).

In the past few months, my ideal would be to look for a smaller size laptop (11 inch), that has a medium gaming capability, but yet allowing me the freedom of a Window OS environment (so that if I wanted to, I can still watch movie or even do emulator).

Sadly, I don't encounter those laptop that frequently, and that's why Surface 1 came into play.

I brought one early September, but decided to return it knowing Surface 2 is going to come out.

At this point, there doesn't seem to be that much improvement in Surface 2 and Tablet doesn't seem to fit that formula?

I wanted to know from the community, what are your opinion?

Thanks

Could not disagree more. The Surface 2 is everything the Surface 1 should have been.

But it's a tablet. Not a laptop.

So what exactly is the problem with going with a Surface Pro 2? Other then the fact that you feel there isn't much difference between it and the original Surface Pro? Surface Pro is pretty nice, with it's biggest knock probably being battery life, which the Surface Pro 2 has addressed.

I plan on picking up the Surface Pro 2. I don't plan on using it for gaming at all, but it can handle some on low/med settngs and doesn't have issues with indie type games. It also has full windows and all the abilities that the pen/touch offers.

I think the justification was spending close to 1k with the typepad and then looking at the Lenovo that my cousin recently got for 1050:

I guess beside the fact that it is a 15.6 inch. Otherwise I think you are paying that 1k for the portability of the Surface 2 Pro?

I got a surface pro 2 and mainly use it for note taking/word processing etc on the go. Could I have gotten a 11" laptop or other convertible devices for around the same price or cheaper? Probably. You are paying a premium for the package of windows 8.1, touch screen, Pen digitizer and the 10.6 inch tablet form factor. As for gaming, it can probably handle 2 hours under heavy load, about the same or a little better than a gaming laptop? (low graphic setting and lower resolution etc... it is a intel hd4400)

With laptops you pay for portability or you pay for power. It's not just all about performance like with desktops.

With the Surface Pro line, I can't see the value of it compared to a Ultrabook.

Just go buy you a Asus Transformer Prime with the offical dock. Its a 10.1 inch tablet and with the dock it makes it into a full fledged android notebook.

I have several emulators on it from ps1 to nintendo 64. Also with the dock your battery life can hit upwards of 14 hours and worka wonderfully for movies.
