How dated is my rig?

#1ISDcaptain01Posted 11/4/2013 12:59:29 AM
I built this is 2009 and never upgraded it

4GB ram
AMD Phenom x2 3.2 GHz
ATI Radeon 4830 512mb
650 watt power supply
RadMax Tornado Case - Green
500 GB Hard drive.

I know I need to build another rig, but im not going any pc gaming right now or soon. Mostly busy with consoles.

Very dated. Barely mininum specs for low settings on most games today. Hell, some games won't plain run (DX11 requirement).

You won't be able to lay fancy new shooters, but there's plenty of good, less demanding games one could pick up.

Pretty dated. Dual core isn't going to get you anywhere, wouldn't bother upgrading video card because of that. I am sure you can still run some games, typically low. You can upgrade as you feel that you have the money to do so.

My past rig was from 2010 but had better specs, Its not the year the card came out or cpu came out its how high end it was. technically Phanom II is still considered a decent CPU, but if it isnt quad core 980 black edition or 6 core then its useless for current games. And your video card is almost worse. Upgrade man upgarde very very soon.

Are you sure you built that in 2009? With a first generation Phenom?

I also built my first one in 2009 with the exact same specs, only I had a 4850 and a different case.

What motherboard do you have? Chances are you can unlock the third and fourth core on the CPU

Rather dated.

Phenom II X4 is still an okay processor, but the X2s lack cores and won't run new games well at all.

4 GB is growing dated. Better upgrade to 8.

4830 is very outdated. It's not DX11 capable, which means it won't run the next gen games at all coming out.

It's also pretty weak....similar to like an old 8800 GT. New GPUs are between twice and like 6x as powerful as that.

I'd do a new build.
