Why are 90% of cases made out of steel?

Why aren't aircraft grade aluminum or other more high end metals more common?

What would be the advantage in the use of these way more expensive materials?

Lighter weight. Less shipping costs and ease of transporting rigs.

Have to ask the same question. I am not an engineer, what is the problem with steel, what would we gain by going with a high grade aluminum ( I assume weight loss is the #1 advantage ), and how much extra would this cost?

I have a Fractal R4, the thing is heavy but I kind of like that, it feels sturdy. I like the price too, I think I got it for around $75 on sale. How much would aluminum cost?

You can get aluminium if you want to pay more, iron is extremely abundant and so steel is cheap.

The cost of the better metals outweighs the shipping cost reduction.

Aircraft grade aluminum is expensive, and the amount you'd need to make a sturdy case would be ridiculous. Since when has steel NOT been high quality metal?

Imagine a case made of damascus steel (the modern kind). You know, like many high-end chef's knives. That would be freaking awesome.
