Operating System Tier list

Too hard to decide.

I'd say Win95 was the best, since it ran every old DOS game, and every new game.

But, as were all operating systems back then, Win95 was fairly unstable.

XP did a fairly good job of adding features without removing too many from the 9x era, so it's a contender.

Win Vista/7/8 seem to only remove power user features from XP, without adding much. Of actual advancements, I'd say Vista saw the search from the start menu, but 7 made it actually useful.
Vista got Aero, but windows 8 dumped it.

So I'd rate them like this
95 - First OS specifically designed for gaming and productivity. With some Internet thrown in
XP - First serious attempt at a consumer focuses OS with stability, failed miserably at start but still a noble effort.
Win7 - Mostly improved Vista without losing too many features.

Windows 8 kind of loses automatically. While some games run ~ 10% better on windows 8, some games don't run at all on windows 8. Windows 7 has far better compatibility with games than windows 8. Compatibility with all games > running some games ~ 10% better.

Let's hear some of these supposed games that don't run at all on Windows 8.

Name 1 game that does not run on Windows 8 that works on Windows 7.

Also, from what I observed games actually run 20-25% better on Windows 8, and for new games like BF4 they can run even 2x better

I haven't used Windows 8 since its initial retail release. I had compatibility issues with some games (mainly Fallout 3 and Crysis Warhead) and people here completely refused to believe me the first time I talked about it. I'm sure that's all fixed now. Considering that and the fact that BF4 and maybe some other games run better on 8.1, I'll be using 8.1 on my upcoming build. However, I'll always love Windows XP and 7.

And some games run better on vista than 7 and some run better on xp than vista.
So bam! XP is clearly the best.

And yet, 98 se1 never could manage to even do something as simple as turn itself off.
It's amazing how crappy operating systems were back then.
