OK, I need help finding a 24 inch monitor

#1son_gogettoPosted 11/4/2013 3:12:07 PM
So I've been using my partners 40 inch Samsung 3D Smart TV, which has been decent, but she's moving out soon so I'll be without a screen. I have a crappy 32 inch 720P TV, but its just that. Crappy.

I've spent today looking at monitors, and considering ill be on a (floor) gaming chair, with a table in front of me about 50cm high which I want the monitor on, I've decided on 24 inch (I guess I'll be say about 5-6ft away from the screen. Does that sound about right?

Now I have a 7850 2GB, and an I5 3570k, the GPU is overclocked but the CPU isn't. So I don't know if 1440p or even 120hz is worth going for. I'm looking to get another 7850 or a 280/290 sometime next year.
My budget is 150 (WOO TEA AND CRUMPETS GUVNA), although I'm willing to stretch that out a bit if there's one particular monitor that's worth it.

I prefer image quality over response time, although anything over 10ms isn't preferable. I only really care about 60fps when playing multiplayer. I'm happy with ~40fps with bells and whistles instead for single player stuff

Let me know if you need anything else, but I'm now leaving it to you whizz's here to help me out and find the perfect panel for my gaming needs :)

Thanks

Buy a 16:10 aka 1920x1200 monitor. Don't support the inferior peasant 1920x1080 resolution.

I don't see many people use that though, is it supported well? People seem to suggest 1080 or 1440, but I just don't think it's worth going for 1440 yet, because by the time I have strong enough hardware to support it at good frames, they'll be cheaper anyway.

Erm... I'm not sure actually :\ maybe bigger then? I'm borrowing my brothers 22 inch tomorrow while he waits for a new GPU, so I'll use that as an indicator.

But regardless of size, what sort of tech do I want?

IPS is the best but usually LCD, but better color than LED

LED is thinner and less bright
