I'm probably very late to the party but... was this really supposed to be a fix to the lack of a start button?... There's absolutely no difference before and after the update.

I know, that's why i didn't download it, looks like microsoft trolled us.

If there's no difference, you may need to *install* it rather than just download it. Once you install it, you will have a button you can click on, right where the old Start button was in previous Windows versions.

You know it installs automatically right? There might as well have been nothing if this little icon was all that was added.

You can set 8.1 to boot straight to your desktop and with the start button added, it's practically the same as 7. Clicking the start button brings up the metro style app list, but other than that, I never saw metro when I was using the 8.1 preview for a couple months. Right clicking the start button in 8.1 is awesome. It's probably the one thing I'll miss (went back to 7 a couple days ago).
