Yeah once mantle starts getting adopted mainstream, nvidia cards might be at a disadvantage.

Well I always play at 1920 x 1080, I want a card that can max out any game at the moment

Also I realize that next gen is coming soon, so I'm gonna need one that can play those games at max.

You don't have the money for that.

Well I upgraded my whole PC since the motherboard died and I needed to buy a new CPU for it. I decided to upgrade it all since I wanted to buy a new PC next year anyway.

Got an
I7 4770 CPU
MSI N760 GPU
8 GIG RAM
new motherboard
new cooler

Good choice? How high end is it?

The Gpu. should have got the 280x. more or less the same price and performs far far better. Who advised you to buy 760 gtx anyway?

Another good thing about AMD is that all the new consoles are using AMD hardware, so in theory they should translate better to PC when they're ported from consoles.

In theory.

Only if the design of the game utilizes the strength of the architecture.

DX is agnostic towards hardware. There's no inherent advantages of owning AMD PC hardware for games made on AMD console hardware.

Assuming Mantle lives up to the hype, the big question is still how much support it will get.
Right now, Mantle covers a very little userbase.

And even if optimizations on the consoles carry over to the GCN desktop cards to an extent, AMD has a history of dropping driver support early for their older cards.

Ofcourse ati. If only to support the guys who try to give you value for money.

Nvidia specialises in ripping people off and such a company should not be supported until they change their practices.

Ultimately it's upto you but I'll tell you as a former 5870 user that the card you are looking for is the r9 290.

Price - performance wise it's the best option right now and if you can wait a few weeks till third party custom coolers come on it, it will be a decision you won't regret.

Yup, AMD is just such a generous company, charging $130 for a rebadged part that goes for under $100, and is beaten out by ~$100 parts from their older lineup, not to mention sub-$100 nvidia GPUs.

Seriously, AMD presents a good value in some price segments some of the time. There is no company that provides a better value or that's out to rip you off.

Well, we do know that Frostbyte 3 engine is going to use Mantle, and FB3 is used (or will be used) in games like Battlefield 4, the next Dragon AGe / Wticher games, Starwars Battlefront, etc etc. So there are those, if nothingelse.
