Interesting article for 290/X owners

Apparently not all the brands perform similar, each reference model has a slight difference in fan speeds which effects performance, the ones AMD sent out for review has a higher fan speed than retail which performs better due to less heat

Sapphire

Asus

39 FPS

Big difference just due to fan speeds, bet these cards will fly with proper cooling instead of that reference crap

I believe AMD released new drivers to fix this issue. Regardless, I'm definitely waiting for better coolers before deciding on what card to get.

Well yeah, I was just showing how little a 100-200 RPM on a fan can affect the performance of these cards

Going to wait for the 800 series myself, not saying I'll buy one due to their recent business practices but it will cause the price of the 290 series to drop.

already been debunked, another review site (andetech) got the same performance on retail cards, as their reference samples. AMD has already released a statement claiming tomshardware got faulty cards

the problem is the default fan profile. I changed mine to 47%/55C, 60%,65, 70%/70C, 80%/80C and 100%/90C. So far the card has not gone over 70C running BF4 maxed
