Can programs still run even if they been unticked in the startup list ?

For example I installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software and want it running. When it's checked to on in the start-up list, theirs a icon that appears by the clock when booting. I want my pc to boot as fast as possible so I unticked it in the startup list. So must it be started with windows at boot-up then for it to be running ?

I can't say for every program but just as an example, you don't have to have java start up with your system to have it running later. If you open minecraft then java will open automatically until you tell it to stop or shut down your pc. I don't know what intel rapid storage actually does so I can't say what would trigger its opening after a restart.

There should be an icon in your system tray if the RST software is running.

Yes. I couldn't stop Hamachi from launching itself at start up. There no option for it in the program and it was unticked in msconfig.

If it's not in your tray you can check your open processes. I'm not sure what it would appear as in there however, it could be plain as day, something like IntelRapidStorage.whatever or it could be IRSHDDAP. If it's not in your tray it's probably not open though.
