BFG 7600GT OC... blank screen on startup.

I know... old card.

I am giving it to my dad to build a weak PC... but when its put in, the monitor is ON, but the screen is black (sometimes fading to different 'shades' of black).

I took out the card, and put back in his 8500GT, and it boots up fine. When I had this card in my 'first' built PC, the card would sometimes do this, and eventually the screen would come on, but I NEVER found out the cause...

SImply put, does anyone have any ideas on why this happens?

Maybe overheating or bad voltages within the card. I used to have a 7900 GT. Thing died outta heat. It'd boot up with red and blue lines from the BIOS boot stage before it died one day.

Make sure it's in securely. That exact card has a rather thin PCB, and tends to sit loose, causing it to not work correctly sometimes.
Why are you replacing 8500GT with 7600GT though?

The 8500GT is weaker, is it not?

for gaming yes, the 8500gt is better at hd video decoding though.

I doubt it would matter since they're both so old.
