Dell Windows 7 oem disc question?

#1eLiTeRiChxUKPosted 11/11/2013 8:07:38 AM
Can i use my Windows 7 oem disk to install it onto my mums Asus laptop??

I've used it to reinstall on my dads Dell and it worked fine but just wondering if it will be okay on a different brand laptop?

Yes you can, as long as you have the code of product key of course.

The disks are just disks. You just can't use the key on anything but one PC at a time.

However, try to get the right version for her PC, if her key is for 32 bit home premium you need a disk of 32 bit home premium.

The Asus is running on Windows 8 at the moment, shes gone from XP straight to 8 so yep shes clueless as to how to use it..

And i think i there is a key on the disc sleeve, will it still work if its been used on multiple computers still?

Not entirely true. If you have a Home Premium key, you need a Home Premium disc, but it can be 32-bit or 64-bit, the key will work either way.

Technically you can but I'm not going into that discussion.

Upgrade her to Windows 8.1. The only major difference will be that the start menu will be fullscreen instead of a little window like before. Windows 7's start menu looks different than XP's as well so she'll have to get used to a new start menu regardless. Everything else is basically identical between 7 and 8.
Also in Windows 8.1 you can turn off the hot corners for so the sidebar won't show up randomly when you move your mouse to the top left or top right.
