Graphics card upgrade using TV

#1OayarcPosted 11/12/2013 1:52:30 PM
I have a friend who just got a new graphics card. He is going from a 6850 to a 7870. He does not have a monitor and only uses his TV for his desktop. He set his current card up with his monitor and has been using the TV since his monitor died.

If he uninstalls his current drivers, swaps cards and boots his machine with no drivers and the new card, will it output video to the TV, or will he be screwed with no monitor?

There isn't any difference between a TV and a monitor as far as a PC is concerned.
He'll be just fine.

Assuming his current driver is recent, he shouldn't have to uninstall them in the first place. AMD's current drivers include support for all their DX11 GPUs

It should output 640x480p which all HDTVs and Monitors support. If it doesn't then you can force windows to output that res. While booting press F8, select enable low resolution video.
