If it's limited at 1680x1050, then that's your problem. Your monitor is displaying 1920x1080 but the picture it's displaying is only 1680x1050, so you end up with around three hundred thousand pixels that aren't doing anything. Hence, letterboxing.

Try going through the control panel in windows and seeing if it can force it up to 1080p.

In the control panel, it says 1920 x 1080 (Recommended, 3D), and in the Catalyst Control, it is set to 1080p. but even with those settings, i'm still getting the letterbox

look under "my digital flat panels" for "Scaling Options (Digital Flat Panel)" and move the slider.

Love you.

it was almost 10% "underscaled"....whatever that means. moved it down to 0% and it fixed it right up.

much appreciated all around.

You're welcome.

Happens with my Asus monitor and GPU as well if I use HDMI, I use DVI instead but I hooked it up via hdmi to test something and everything was bordered.

TC, remember how to fix that because often times when updating GPU drivers it'll make your screen all goofy again and you'll have to fix the overscan on it.

At least that's been the case with me and my AMD GPU.

would you suggest DVI over HDMI? when i was getting all my parts together, everyone always kept suggesting that i get a monitor with HDMI ports

You can just pin it to your "pinned" area for future convenience.

I definitely prefer using DVI.

I use the hdmi port for consoles or other things that might not have dvi.

They are essentially the same tho.
