If Steam wants to release in-progress games, fine, but don't clog the front page

This isn't really a criticism of indie games in particular, as plenty of high-profile developers seem to be guilty of this too, but they seem to be the most egregious offenders. Sometimes it feels like Steam's front page is a catalog of games coming 2014-15. Also, it's the rather shady practice of selling people a product that nobody knows the final quality of, but that's a lesser criticism; this is mostly an aesthetic complaint.

I agree with you. It's misleading to see early-access games under the new releases tab.

Agree for sure. I still feel like they shouldn't offer incomplete games, however, at the very least, dont' feature them on the main page.

I don't agree.

I saw 4 early access games out of 26 on my home page. I would hardly call that a catalog of incomplete games.

By the way, two of the four are nearly complete, while the other two, Project Zomboid and Space Engineers, have a ton of content already.

From the looks of it, they hand selected these early access games. Not a problem on my end. Indie devs get some press, and I get to see new games.

Is it just me, or is releasing betas the same as allowing preorders?

Usually when Steam allows preorders they have some sort of release date planned.

Completely agree. Early access should have its own section, or at least an option to hide them from the main page.

at least an option to hide them from the main page.

If it would shut the whiners up, I'm 100% behind this idea...

Though I bet there'd still be some people complaining that they don't like the idea and therefore it shouldn't be allowed for ANYONE.

That is the point. You have some cool games in the works, they are in playable states but they do need some extra money so gamers have the option of buying the alpha or beta now and they can submit their feedback on what works and what needs to be changed. It's a benefit to both sides. If there was no advertising these games then it wouldn't do anybody any good.
