Hey guys, I'm (still) having issues with my desktop...

Alright, so I got my replacement HDD back from Seagate and installed Win7 and then 8 (because I only have an upgrade key so that's the way it is). It froze like once after install and I was like, what the heck, I'll let it go. Then I got a BSOD while playing Ghosts. Then a few more boots and nothing was clickable.

Now...it won't even boot into Windows. It's just a blinking cursor. I was thinking it might be the video driver (the newest one from Nvidia), because I think that's when it froze (shortly afterward anyways). I switched to onboard video and still the same result. (EDIT: This actually doesn't happen every time)Plus, when I go into BIOS my mouse will not work unless I unplug it and then plug it back in. What do I do?

What is the BSOD error, exactly?

irql_not_less_or_equal I think. Can't remember. Windows 8 doesn't really tell you much. Just a big screen with a sad face.

You should have given more information, like why you replaced the hard drive in the first place. Based on the little info given, I would have said memory.

Try 1 stick at a time, different slots, different sticks.

Well, the first hard drive was making clicking sounds so I sent it in for replacement (it also froze on windows completely every time I tried to boot).

I will try memory, but I've run memtest and it didn't find anything. That was a few months ago.

I got that error when my SATA controller was split in the BIOS. One was AHCI the other for some reason reverted to IDE. (this was after installing a new WD 1TB to replace an older WD in addition to a SSD, each one was on a separate controller)

If you only have a single SATA setting, try toggling it to whatever it's not set to. (IDE or AHCI, not RAID)

Since you are not getting a 100% repo of the error though, I doubt it's that simple. Sounds more like something trying/starting to fail rather than a simple setting.

I've already tried changing between ide and achi. As for memory, they both show up in BIOS, but, for some reason, my first slot and my third slot (I believe they are actually 1A and 1B) aren't working. I get 3 beeps whenever I use those slots.

I bet your problem is Windows 8.

Do a fresh format and reinstall of Windows 7 and you'll probably be fine. It's stable, fast, and is better than Windows 8.

Also, upgrading is the worst thing you can do.

It's ALWAYS best to do a fresh, clean install from a DVD/USB/External Harddrive. Upgrading almost always gives issues in one way or another.
