And yes, it does indeed blow gigantic plooms of dust whenever you turn it on when the fans go full speed.

Yes, it is located at a concrete plant, so that was after I "cleaned" it. It gets covered in inches of dust daily.

Yes, it is required for daily operations.

Yes, I asked repeatedly to move it to my server room back at the main office but my boss keeps telling me no...because he's a craven idiot.

I kid you not. It's the cleanest spot in the plant...and the area is cleaned daily. Only a crappy wall seperates it from a bigass concrete hopper/conveyer belt.

It run our batching software. Basically integrates the batch panel located in the plant to the disbatch computer that controls this and our outer plant.

Scheduling trucks/loading trucks when they come in.

It also hosts our trimble database.

Here's another fun picture I took of my server room :D

Believe it or not, it used to be worse...but they wont let me fix it more than I have.

EDIT: woops...posted the wrong picture. That was when it was worse...this is after they let me fix it a little bit.

When something happens to that rack, you can tell your boss "I told you we should move it to the server room"

I literally snuck it back to the office last winter.

I literally went in after hours, stole the damn thing, went back to the office, deployed it after a cleaning, and got it working beautifully.

When he saw it over here, he freaked and made me take it back. It's like I was forcing an escaped NK national back into the Kim Jong Un's arms!

Their fear is that if our mpls goes down, the plant will have to manually batch.

That's kinda horrifying. They aren't worried at all that someone might trip on it or something stupid and take it down anyway?

They don't care.

I have a small network rack on site for the switches and such, but the server itself is too big to fit in it.

It's not exactly new either, and I offered to build a small formfacter, put server 08 r2 on there and have it run ops while being much much more safe/clean. Hell, I don't even think it needs to run on a server os.

They don't want to spend the money...

Worst case scenario, I cloned the environment on a VM I have hidden in one of my supermicro boxes.

EDIT: Clarification
