I'm debating on getting a 3DS XL either on Black Friday or sometime around Christmas, do any of you guys have one for a second source of gaming and would recommend it?

I've never owned a PS3 or 360 but I'm not really interested in either, also my TV is crap.

I bought a 3DS XL earlier in the year for Fire Emblem. I love it and would definitely recommend it. It's had an amazing year of quality releases.

The 3DS XL might be my favorite console ever. The console itself is super high quality, good construction and it's hella sleek. Games are amazing too if you like Japanese games anyway since Western support for it is kinda lacking development wise.

^Not true lol The quality is ok at best, but the games are amazing like you said though :p

I rarely use mine but the new Mario Kart is pretty fun.

I don't own one, but it's the only 'console' I'd want as a companion to PC thanks to games like Fire Emblem, SMT IV, etc.

I do. It's easily the most convenient way to play games. Which why I prefer a PC/hand-held combo over a console. PCs are a bit harder to manage, but yield better results. Handhelds are incredibly easy to manage, while potentially yielding less results. Consoles are at this in-between of being annoying to keep updated and lug around, while not yielding particularly great results. I'd rather dedicate some time to my PC or just mindlessly play with my 3DS in bed.

I got a Japanese 3DS to play Monster Hunter, which is pretty much the only series I care about that isn't on PC.
