What external hard drive to get?

#1dayne195Posted 11/16/2013 12:23:41 PM
Alright, so I want an external HDD that I could play games from. Is that a good idea? Would it work as well as an internal? Which should I get? I'd like to spend no more than $100 for a TB. Thanks!

It's not going to be anywhere near as good as an internal hard drive. Outside of little things from portableapps.com or extremely light games, I wouldn't recommend it.

You do get he doesn't mean a flash drive, right?
Also, all the people who use an external hard drive just fine are a good sign you either don't know what HDD means or you just don't know what you're talking about period.

Now TC, I don't know much but I've been using one of these

for the past few years and it's worked great, cable crapped out at one point but that was unrelated to the unit itself.

Appearntly this is the current model from them.

Should work fine but I would wait till people who know a bit more come around.

Thanks! Anyone else know if that's a good drive? I figure it probably is, it's WD.

I know people who run steam games from the external HD and I don't mean the "indie games".

It isn't a big deal unless you have a bad/slow one.

Well he should at least make sure he has a USB 3.0 drive or a esata for the speed to play the games.
esata HDDs are just as fast as internal drive (it's just an external sata port) so external drives can be just as fast but you have to keep in mind that external drives are usually more expensive so if you don't plan on moving that drive around then just install an internal.

I play games from external hard drives with usb 3.0 and haven't noticed any difference form playing on an internal drive.

Don't listen to NicoC96. Load times may be a tad slower but if I really cared about that I would only play games from a ssd drive.

Just because you don't have standards doesn't mean TC shouldn't.
