How is the PlayStation 4 1.84 TFLOPS when AMD's Kaveri is only 856 GFLOPS?

Kaveri is new technology coming out January 14th.

Um, more than twice as many shader units

But I'd agree the console and PC comparison needs to end

fact is, the APU is the near future, and parallel processing is the end-future

Can't knock the consoles for helping bury the X86

Nobody in this topic said that, so how can you agree?

Well, Kaveri has new CPU cores, but the same GPU cores

you can play the numbers game, or you can look at the actual numbers

Steamroller is 20-30% faster than bulldozer/piledriver

Kaveri is only testing the waters for HSA or GPGPU

It's not going to break every record but it will break new grounds

Here's the thing. The GPU on the APU in the PS4 is a modified 7970m which is actually capable of 2.18 TFLOPS. I'm imagine it's downclocked for temperature and maybe bottleneck'd by the god aweful clock speed of the CPU cores

It's cut down as well. 7970m is just a low power 7870, whereas the PS4's chip is a sort of hybrid 7870 7850, but with a much lower clockspeed than either.(800mhz)

The GPU in the PS4's APU is simply bigger (more components) and hence better.
