Just how powerful is the PS4 compared to modern high end PC's?

Does anyone have a good idea? Are we talking only a few months or a few years? Maybe it's even on par...

The PS4 has some good tech in it, but come close to around 660ti speed or such according to my search engine queries. So there's that.

Then there's that whole annoying argument about people saying "BUT DEVS CAN PROGRAM CLOSER TO DA METAL". I won't completely dismiss that the OS is more lightweight than Windows background operations, but considering its similar architecture to the PC processors, it will hardly be any difference in performance.

it's about as good as a high end pc from 2011. It's a few years behind but it's still low middle to high low tier.

I heard it's more compared to 7790 or 7850. Around there.

The PS4 is about on par with a mid-range gaming PC, perhaps a little less powerful than some mid-range systems(depending on the individual components).

The fact that most people get confused by/get in a tizzy over, is that the PS4 is more powerful than the majority of PC's(not gaming PC's). The PS4 is more powerful than the average PC, because the average PC is not a very powerful machine, especially for gaming. Heck, even on Steam, the most popular GPU is an integrated one(HD4000) and 3 of the top 4 are integrated(HD 2000/3000/4000), and the PS4 crushes those.

As for the time of PS4 holding up to PCs...Its already passed. It wasn't up to par with high end gaming rigs when it was announced. Of course, the difference there is that the PS4 costs $400 while the GPU alone cost nearly that much in most high-end rigs.

Last I heard, its between the 7850 and the 7870(closer to the 7870 actually, IIRC).

Mhm. it's closer to a 7850. the 7000 series launched in January of 2012 so take that for what it's worth. It's considered a low end card at this point. Nvidia 600 series is more mid tier and 700 series is middle high.
